Ok, i took the POS out for a test run today and it runs nice under 4000 rpm , it seems any thing over that and it back fires thru the down pipe real bad. I thought it was rich so i leaned it out and the same thing. I tryed one more time with the fuel press back up higher at 45psi vac off. This time it back fired bad and it seemed to have a bad mis all the way home , sounds like i lost a cyl or something.

I checked all my plug wires and there all on good, i do have a few little exhaust leaks but iam not sure thats it. It ran pretty good before i put the new parts on, this is what ive done since.

hooker headers
lt 3"down pipe
delta gate
kenne bell stall
moved the o2 sensor to the other side [drivers side header]

I'll pull the plugs and check them but other then that i have no clue.

i hate this car

did you ohm test the coil packs? try looking at your plug wires closely and see if it rests near anything metal. then look for grey spots that resemple arching. that happend to me and i just replaced the wires and runs like a champ. or, if you feel daring...with the car running..touch the wires as see if you get voltage pulses :D if you get hit by one...you found your bad wire. i speak from experience.

I'll check the coil pack and wires tonight, i have been having problems with the dash light coming on and off and my voltage light is on all the time now and wont go off. I had the alt test and it was good so i use my brothers and the light would be on at start up but after a short drive it would go out but now it just stays on. Could this be my problem and the inj is getting weak or something.

Iam up for any help:)

try attaining a stethascope (sp?), the automotive version  or use a long screwdriver and listen to the injectors that way. listen for their "tsst tsst" sound. or ohm test the injector harness and injectors and see if there's any bad ones.

The o2's where at 780 but that was when i last drove it , my batt died and it was not hooked up.

New stuff now:mad: the scan tool pulled a code 32 today when i started it, so i check the egr and every thing else to , it looks ok to me. The i found that my batt cable that runs to the starter is burnt in half by the new header. I want and put a new one on and tryed another chip and it still runs and idles like it has a bad mis, i also tryed some other plug wires and nothing.

what did i burn up now

ECM  maybe

Still has the bad mis , i put a new 4 gage batt wire on from auto zone and it still has the mis.

i dont know what i did now, i guess i wont make the track after all.:(

I put another chip in, another coil and module, another o2 sensor, tried another maf, tried other plug wires, and still runs real bad.

the only things i can think of now is the spark plugs, and ecm.

what do you guys think

we need a picture of the total electrical/ignition system to properly figure this out. 99% of the time a backfire under load on a tr can be traced to the spark plugs- WIRES- coilpack-or chargeing system. don't skrimp on spark plug wires. I have boxes of nice clean new looking wires that are'nt goood enough for my GN. coil packs are finiky too. they can ohm out good and still be bad. replace the plugs. make sure the chargeing system is working around 14 volts. And the last thing is to make sure the turbo is seated into the intake manifold, and the seals on the bell adapter (Turbo to manifold)are in good shape. the high load backfire, which is caused by a snuffed spark on the compression stroke exploding on the waste spark allways tries to pop the turbo off the manifold. This then causes what seems like a bad miss, but is really a big leak.Hope you get it soon Later.....Danny

iam going to try and get some cr42ts plugs and try, some new wires if i can find some, and a 86-87 coil pack, should i get one used or try to get one from a dealer.

I have a problem with a short or something , my dash light are gone and my voltage light stay on all the time now. For a bit there it was reading in km and not gal then it came back to the right stuff now its gone again. Thing is i cant find any thing , i pulled the dash apart checked all the fuses, put a new batt cable on , and iam getting 14volts at the alt and batt when the car is running.

I also pulled a crazy code when i want to th track that said i was running 280*on the coolant but it was fine when i checked just at 160*, then i pulled a code 32 egr but all checked out fine, could it be the ecm , ive been getting crazy info on the scan tool to. Maybe my batt cable has been on the header longer then i thought.

and i run a intercooler so i dont have a bell any more.:)

starting with the electrical system. You have a fairly modded car with a marginal electrical system stock. As a general rule of thumb, you are going to need to verify/clean/upgrade if possible every grounding point on your car. if you don't have a factory service manual, go to the library and get copies of the ground distribution chart. Also any place you think another ground strap could go is not going to hurt. Increase the gauge of wire to all the major power users starting with the fuel pump. clean/ grease/ replace corroded / damaged connectors. Solder and shrink wrap any connections that have been twisted or taped during past repairs or modifications. You must know that all this is up to the job before you can reliably diagnose your troubles. Next double check all hose connections. Vacume and boost related. backfires tend to take out the weak points. You don't have a bell to check, but you have between 5 and 10 other connections now between your turbo and the intake. Yes be sure to use new high quality spark plug wires. Don't keep chaseing around the problem in circles. Hope this helps....Danny

well i put some new cr43ts in gap at 32 and it runs great:) it most have blow a plug out or something. I might just to the cr42ts to help this problem what do you guys think about this.

thanks for the help

hey, maybe the 42's were just too cold...either way, glad to hear she's running good.:)

now turn up the wick and take it to the track:D.
