High beams wind-up cutting off headlights...

On occassion, when I turn my high beams on, after a few seconds, my headlights will cut off completely... interior lights stay on though.

I'll turn the headlight switch off, then back on again and the headlights come back on.. could this problem be indicative of a dying headlight switch on the dash or a problem with the switch in the column?

I melted my high beam switch so I will chose that one.

There is a circuit breaker in the light switch too.

Another problem is the wires crimped into the connector for the dimmer switch, a couple strands were cut when crimped and helped melt the whole thing.

Went to a relay for the high beams with larger wattage lamps and got rid of the factory dimmer switch.

Also had to replace one on a non-TR Regal my cousin owned.
