This technology is a decade old. I remember reading about it in Hot Rod back in 2001.

Looks like someone is finally pulling old Smokey's "Hot Vapor Cycle" engine out of the mothballs. His engine was "bought" and shelved by one of the majors (GM?) back in 1984...
actually, no. Smokey specifically designed his engine to not use any sort of fuel injection, instead relying on the hot air and fuel to get a more complete and controlled burn.

It was Chrysler not GM. A 2.2 Dodge Omni. He developed ceramic pistons to take the heat. The thing made 300+ horsepower, 340 ft.lbs. of torque and got 40-43 mpg. The radiator was miniscule and the exhaust could be PVC pipe because all the heat went into vaporizing the fuel. That's all I remember from the Popular Science article. I'll see if I can find it.

It is older than that. Smokey Unich originated it back in the 80's.

Yep, he was an innovator. Our current combustion is so incomplete and wasteful its rediculous like 5%, but he achieved 40%+ efficiency if I remember correctly.

MIkey

Smokey was in Hot Rod showing off the 2.5 Pontiac Fiero in the 80's. This was before the 2.2 Dodge engine.

Makes me wonder how many more "old bought out designs" will be hitting the streets in our future.

Sorta scares me too ... it seems like we have finally hit "that point".

I am sure these people bought the technology HOPING to never have to use it until we hit SUCH AND SUCH POINT , hmmm ---
