Usually lock in home heating oil price at this time of year. Just got the form from my oil company and it is at $1.64 this year.

Was $1.31 last year. Guess it is time to shop around. Now this is in CT with Standard Oil. Not sure what it is in other areas of the country but damn, over 30 cents a gallon more than last year. Guess it goes along with the gas prices.

As the Greenies go for penalizing the fossil fuel users it'll get worse. Not that the oil cos. aren't enjoying some great profits. Guess this is what happens when the Feds ignore the anti-trust laws they're supposed to fight. With there being less then half a dozen major oil cos in the US now, there's not competetion other then to see what the market will bear.

Hey not all of us are wack jobs wearing leather coats when it's 65*!!! It's not our fault that we can't vote and 65* is chilly to some:D My dad is originally from Chicago (Elmhurst to be more exact) and he usually says the same thing when he sees people wearing big coats when it's only in the 60's....

Take it easy on the Floridians or better yet move to a warmer climate so you're not so irritable;)

Natural gas hasn't been any picnic lately, either. I had a couple of $300+/mo natural gas bills this past winter. In the previous 4 years I've been in the house I've never had a bill even come close to that.

I'm thinking about putting a pellet fuel stove in the finished basement and turning the heat down to 55 everywhere else in the house. We spend all our time down there anyway.

But it's July. It's the 'lectric bills that get me this time of year w/ the central air. The only break I get is spring and early fall where neither the heat nor the cooling systems run.

I would be spending all my time in the basement too if it looked like yours.:)

Will be shopping around for better prices that's for sure. Natural gas sort of sucks because you don't even have the option of shopping around!

It was a major oversight not to put a bathroom down there. However, it's good I guess because I see my family when I come upstairs to pee.

And it does suck not being able to shop around. But if you look at the sham deregulation of the electric biz I'll take the gas monopoly any day of the week. At least they don't pretend they're going to save me money and then cost me more.

Take a look at corn stoves

It turns out the energy we get from corn for ethynol can be used for heat by just simply burning the corn kernels. People who live in the cold north almost always have corn available locally, its cheap, burns clean, and it is an all American source of energy.

Just put corn furnaces in Google and have a good time.

you can buy natural gas ussually from anyone. I live west of CHI. town and buy gas from a company on the east coast. My local company doesnt store just buys and sells. This other company buys in bulk at low price. Then sells at a stead locked rate for 6mo. to a year at a time. Saved .32 cents per therm. It screws your local workers to change. So if its close stay with the locals and keep the employment up in your town.
