Our shingles on our house have seen better days. So my wife and I decide replace the shingles and build a front porch on at the same time. As luck would have it Home Depot sent us a 10% off coupon. So we go to Home Depot and buy most of the wood, shingles, and accessories I will need to do the roof and porch. We pay the delivery fee and give them a date for delivery two weeks away the date of purchase. The shingles came a week early, no big deal. I was away on business so my wife told them where to put them beside the house. Two guys unloaded them by hand and everybody was happy. Fast forward a week and Home Depot calls my wife and tells her that their driver refuses to deliver the wood to our house because of the lane we live on. It is a single dirt lane and a semi would not fit back it. Ok that is understandable. So my wife calls the manager and asked him what was up. He reassured her that they would deliver the wood the following day. He called her back later and said that the driver still refuses and their other driver said it is too much for him to unload. But a week earlier they delivered the shingles and two guys unloaded them by hand. But they would not pay two guys to hand deliver the wood. So I told them that if they can’t deliver the wood, to come and get the shingles. So now they are going to pay two guys to come and get the shingles.
I am I missing something here? They will pay two guys to come and pick the shingles up and lose a sale. But they will not pay for two guys to unload the wood and keep the sale. I don’t know about you but that makes no business sense to me at all. But then again I don’t head a multi-million dollar company.
