Just wondering if anyone has tried their hand at powder coating w/ a home kit and what kind of results can be expected? I have an oven (old kitchen range) that I could use for med to smalll parts. I would like to be able to do parts as big as an intake.

I have the Eastwood kit but never used it. No room for the stove in the garage:biggrin: My friend has the better eastwood gun and he loves it and all the parts he did came out nice. He told me cleaning the parts is the name of the game

It will work fine. It's just that 5 Ibs. at a time powder gets expensive. Put the rack up high to hang small parts
with a little wire. Cant set most parts on a rack because of
the marks it will leave. Sand blast painted parts or strip.
I would buy a little Iron phos, and wash with a pressure sprayer. and wala you are coating.

Do not cook out of the oven again.

If you have any ? just ask.

Works well but if you get the eastwood kit buy a performance deflector and fluidizing attachment. it will work better..

I built an extension for my oven out of insulation board so I can do bigger things like wheel well mouldings

Like painting prep is everything.

Thanks Guys, that was quick. Since I'm on here I'll ask......

what is it and what does it do?

aminga I'd love to see some pics of what you did with your oven.

Once you remove all the oils via sand blasting/detergent the iron phos
attaches to the metal to reduce rust and promote adhesion. If you want the part to last it needs to be clean and phosphated!

The fluidizer is just air pumped into the powder to mix the powder so you will
get a more even dispersement of heavies and fines. When powder is ground.
it is ground in different particle sizes.

Ain't got a clue what a deflector is. our guns are 5k apiece.

Thanks for the info Ronnie.

Btw, I checked your link out, that shop is not joke...top notch, wow!

Any ? just ask.
I even sell powder to individuals. Im not here to compete with the
local guys. But I do like to barter.

Here are photos. Do a search on Pregnant oven for more information.

Also the fluidizing adapter just gets more powder into the airstream. The performance deflector has holes in it. Makes the gun act more like spray gun
