Hood Latch Issue

I'm having a problem with my hood latch (the part that bolts to the radiator support). When I go to pull the cable from inside the car, the cable end slips past the locking mechanism in the latch, and then I can't open the hood anymore, unless I take it apart and re-do the cable end. The locking mechanism is loose. I tried tightening it up with that coil spring piece, but it doesn't help. Do the aftermarket latches work OK? Also, getting tired of having to slam the hood shut so hard or having to push down on the hood with my hands. Don't want to put a big dent in the hood.

Did you had to replace the latch?

I might have the same issue (putting car back together) and I tried locking it and pulling the Hood Latch Release and it did not seem to fully retract without some assistance from me manually.
