Hood Latch Spring Install

Having trouble attaching the hood latch spring. Not sure of the orientation of the "little hook" at the end of the spring and where its position should live on the hood area. Tried several positions but all attempts resulted in the spring being loose.

Exactly what I needed. The metal tab to the right was slightly bent out not allowing a snug fit and I wasn't sure that the little hook at the end of the spring went into the hole or under a metal tab. Bent the metal tab back in a bit and the spring is holding tight. Funny, it took 40 years to fall out !
