I think I know some of the differences between the Hot Air and Intercooled blocks. Just wondering if anyone knows what the fastest anyone has ever taken a Hot Air block?

I'm sure they have dipped into the 10's, anyone ever gotten to 9s with one? If so, how deep? I would assume some have gone the intercooled route and done quite well. A guy I know was talking to me the other day and he want's to build one to the gills so to speak with all of the go fast goodies and see where it takes him. Any thoughts?

See sig regarding blocks :D (I am sure it can be done)
Here are my thoughts; To get into the 9's, any TR block will require strengthening, i.e, girdle, steel caps.
It is my understanding that the "big boys" use different rods and crank as well.

If you decide to keep the stock TR block, the question really becomes:
Can you tune detonation free and are you willing to roll the dice?

I am sure the experts will comment.
Good luck! :D

Edit:
Contact Bill Anderson or Jack Cotton for a block.
I would start there AND, get a block from these guys.

I think what he was hinting at was to set the record for the fastest Hot Air block. Might not seem like a big deal to some but it seemed pretty important to him.

What I gathered from talking to him, he intended to go with caps and a girdle. New stroker kit, something about some new TA aluminum heads, ported intake, biggest TB, biggest dbb turbo he could find, nitrous to get it spooled and let it loose. See what numbers he could run with it. He knows I have had a GN for a while and wanted to know what the fastest time ran on a Hot Air block was. I told him I didn't know but would ask around.

For all I know the guy is full of it. He was at a buddy of mine's shop the other day. You know the kind of guy I'm talking about, loud and boisterous, just want's to do something just to say he is the only one to do it. I wouldn't waste my time or money, knowing I would eventually break the motor pushing it to it's limits. Take's a lot of time, money, tuning and experience to get into the 9s. I have been no where near those time's. He is a regular at my bud's shop and has spent quite a few bucks on his mustang there. As a favor to my friend I told him I would ask around to see what info is out there.

Yep he is a pony guy. His current one is pretty stout. My buddy who did the build for him says it has ran 5.3 in the eigth mile:eek: . 5.3 x 1.55=8.215 in the quarter mile. I don't know if it is set up for the quarter, but it is without question the fastest street car around these parts if those times are correct.
