hello,i just purchased a 85 hot air 3.8 with turbo and headers and wire harness, ect.Motor did not come with MAF sensor. Can i use a LT1 MAF,or do i have to get original. And if LT1 is compatible does it need programing?

With the stock HA setup you will need to do a couple things to use the LT1 MAF. If you dont already have the LT1 MAF, an LS1 or ZO6 MAF might be a better choice depending on your goals.

First you will need a translator, it translates the signal from the MAF to the ECM. You can buy a new translator from Full Throttle Speed (FULL THROTTLE SPEED - Store Front Page) or just keep an eye out in the for sale section here, they pop up from time to time.

You will also need to convert over to a 86-87 ECM, most likely. I dont know if the translator will work with the 84-85 ECMs, but a lot has changed since I had a hot air ECM. Do a search on gnttype.org about converting over to the 86-87 ECM.

Might be easier to just find a 84-85 MAF if you are just looking to get the car up and running.

Good luck.
