I'm in the process of cleaning parts to put back on rebuilt engine. I used Gunk on the intake ,it cleaned up good, but I've got what looks like clearcoat in a few places that turned white. Anybody ran into this? BTW the intake portings going well.

Warning!!!!!!

The coating on the underside can and will flake off and in turn drop into the oil. I always wondered why my bearings had lines in them as I thought I was very clean when assembling an eng. Finally found why. I ended up sand blasting all of the intake and just painting the top.

Ditto

I had my intakes media blasted, sand blasted, or bead blasted to completely clean them off, and then I ONLY clear coated the topside. People only see the top, so it makes no differenceevery intake I have ever bought, seen, or sold, has had flaking paint on the bottom...I have 5 intakes now, three of which I am working on, and all three that I am working on ahve been blasted clean. I am using pour15 clearcoating for that. Lee, the intake I was asking you about cleaned up very nice, and I am having it powdercoated and polished to look chrome :D :D :D !

john ;)

I went to Sears and bought an abrasive nylon filament wheel brush. It gives the intake a nice luster , didn't do much to the clearcote except turn it silver. If I get it sandblasted there's really no need to paint is there ?

You should at least clearcoat the top to keep the aluminum from oxidizing.

For my intake, I used a wire wheel on a die grinder and removed the clearcoat. Then I painted the top side.

I'll do that Bryan, Thanks. Is there a recipe on here for your 13 sec 85 GN. That's my goal.

Here is a list of the go fast mods:

Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Adjustable wastegate
9” K&N air filter
LT1 MAF sensor
MAF Translator
86/87 ECM
TurboTweak 106 chip
Ported intake manifold
86/87 Crank sensor
86/87 Ignition module and coil
Walbro 307 fuel pump – hotwired
86 Gn posi – Aluminum drums and HR Parts N Stuff poly bushings
Boxed upper and lower control arms
GN1 heads – Kirbans springs and Trick Flow push rods
TH200-4R built by Jimmy
Neal Chance 2800 stall torque converter
ATR 3” stainless steel crossflow exhaust
ATR 2.5” stainless steel up-pipe
Pontiac Fiero electric fan
Large brake shoes

You can see all of the information on the hot air buick registry on www.hotairbuick.com.

The 13.72 was achieved on 11# of boost. The turbo does not flow enough to make more boost than that with the GN1 heads. A good port job on a set of 8445 heads should provide a similar result. I ran a 13.89 on the stock heads (unported heads and intake) on 20# of boost with a Red's 93 chip. I have done very little tuning on the current combination and should be able to pick up quite a bit more. Right now my trans shifts way to early, so I am not even geeting over 4300 rpms and missing an opportunity to make alot more power. If you have any questions or would like any more info, just let me know. HTH.

take a gander here!!

This was I Win Engineering....Ebay item.....I got it after the builder went big block....So.....

The are the shots I got

John
