Does anyone think I could get by with a set of Hypereutectic pistons in my 84 overhaul and keep it in one piece? I know the stock were cast and in the hot air I have no idea what max boost will be but don't figure I would ever get over 15lbs out of a stock turbo if I could get that much.. Engine will be mostly stock except a bigger cam maybe and balanced. Anyone??? THANKS.. mike

As you know, it is the detonation and pre-ignition that kills pistons, not boost. You could get by with stock pistons as MANY have run 20+ PSI on stock pistons. Hypers will work as well if you need to bore the block.

Just an FYI.
Build the block right and it will be good for 20 - 23 PSI.
At this boost level, you won't really need girdle or caps.
After some time, you will eventually increase the boost and be "like the rest of us".

Pistons

I have a brand new set of federal mogul (speed pro) hypers (.030) and moly rings for 230.00 shipped let me know if your interested.

You will be fine, im not sure on what you are looking to do that you figure you need new pistons but, i have been running 24 PSI on a Ta-33c with alky for a long time about 2 years, and haven't had one problem, tune to get no detonation and you will be fine! I recently upgraded turbo's, and will be upping boost.

Thanks Guys...

THANKS for the input.. bought a set of .040 hypers today..block already .030 and want to start with straight bores.. car was running on 3 cyl when I drove it home..was rebuilt by a kid who did not know what he was doing.. like #1 rod in backwards etc. Will use good exhaust headers, bigger injectors, 87 ECM, cam in the 200 range and so on.. nothing to write home about but should run decent and stay together.. THANKS AGAIN.. mike
