Im new to turbo bicks cars / community and im not much of a mechanic (SO I NEED HELP) I Bought an 85 t type with a bunch of problems i did plugs (twice) wires, rebuilt turbo ,relaced oil feed line changed fluid in rear cut cat off and replace with straight pipe and the car ran great for one day. I had a couple of mechanics look at it but they cant figure out whats wrong so if i could get someone to come look at it i would really appreciate it .

hot air

The car is hard to start i have to pump the gas like ten times the fuel pump seems to be loud but supposedly has new fuel pump and tank is new also sputters going over 40 and bogs and pops in the engine

I have one zillionth the experience of most of the people here, but after checking for any vacuum leaks or loose electrical connections (including plug wires), my first look would be at fuel delivery, i.e. fuel filter, regulator, injectors, etc. Do you know for sure that it has a new pump?

Also might want to check the spark plugs for proper gap, and maybe the ignition module under the coil.

Could be a clogged catalytic converter...

Also could be something more serious like the timing chain jumped (would cause sputtering and hard starting), broken valve spring, worn cam lobe(s). Hopefully not, but could happen. Try the simpler stuff first.

i would definitely look into spark issues like plugs gapping coil ignition module from my experiences the coil module was the problem for me with the same symptoms ur describing

Hey dude you could follow the lead of everybody in this post and before you know it you will have replaced the whole damn car and still not have the problem fixed or you can look into one of the local chapters in your area and post for some personal help from a member on the board near you. Nobody I mean nobody not even the modt skilled technician can tell you what is wrong with your car without at least 80% of the facts about the symptoms even then it's just an educated guess. This is the very reason why people take their cars to the shop for a tune up issue and leave out with 1000.00 worth of repairs and the car still isn't fixed.

With more facts and some baseline testing on the issue someone might be able to give you a good idea of what your problem is, but the fact that it is an on again of again type situation you need a more personal response so look for help in the regional forums first. I'm sure there are some handy guys with Turbo Buicks in your area.

Thanks for everybody's reply .I did plug gap like 4 times ending with gap of 45. I guess im just gonna start with maf and coil and heated o2 sensor hope that fixes it . Does anyone know where i can get a maf translator for under 200 dollars. Thanks

Does anybody know if they make a translator for an 85 or do i have to do the ecm swap . And if i have to swap what all do i need to do besides maf and coil i know there is some other harness for something.

You have to make the ECM swap and get a translator for an LT1 MAF. The coil module will need the coil module adapter plate and wiring adaptor as well. Full Throttle sells the translator and Caspers Electronics the coil module adapters. Brad
