Anyone have a hot air throttle body laying around? We need to make a donation to the Buick from HELL.

Yes, Kevin's car is finally back together (sorry for taking so long with it Kevin!!). However, in reassembly, the roll pin that activates the TPS broke and I can't drill the damn thing out! It must be some seriously hardened steel. It broke 4 drill bits! So the throttle shaft is jacked. I've got the TB off my Riviera on it right now so I could run it.

BTW, it lived up to it's name... I'm not sure that there is anyone here locally that has more hours logged on hot airs than me and it just plain kicked my butt! Every time I turned around something else went wrong... lol

Anyway, a throttle body is needed for this project so that my Riv can get back to the track. Let me know prices. Thanks guys!

I'm sorry that I cannot help with a part. However, you might want try this; use some titanium, or carbide drill bits. They are more expensive than high speed steel, but are so much better. Use a lot of Cutting fluid. Again more expensive than WD40 but worth the money. Lastly, use a variable speed drill, and put the speed setting on slow. This will give the bit a chance to cut into the pin. Hope this helps

I thought the roll pin was able to be knocked out.I don't think mine is set in a blind hole but a through hole??????????

It is a through hole...Punch it out from the other side...I think it is an 1/8" roll pin...Use an 1/8" drive pin punch...

The roll pins are hardened and they are split so that they will collapse and fit into the hole tight...Your drill bit is getting caught on the split and grabbing and that is what is breaking them...

The biggest problem that you're going to have is finding a 1/8" roll pin that is long enough...The ones that you can buy in the hardware stores may be a bit short...You may have to rob one off of a junkyard TB...

YES, punch it out. DONT drill out. If anything take that drill bit and use it to knock it out.

Ive got some before from the junkyard. I looked through alot of front wheel drive GM cars and finally found some. May take some time looking. Not all the TBs are set up the same way with the pin where you can get it. Some dont even have a pin. They are also often easy to break. Good luck.

How much do TB's usually go for? I have one spare at the moment, also, there is a darn cheap entire turbo Riv motor on ebay right now. The motor is complete from intake to harness and sensors. Worse case scenario, there is a whole motor for you! Let me know what this TB is worth, and we'll work out the details!

John

Thanks for the suggestions on getting the pin out... I have even tried pressing it out and the damn thing is stuck good. That's how I resorted to drilling. This truly won't come out. I even had a machine shop take it for 3 days and when I got it back they said they couldn't even get it out. I think it's just in there permanently. I've tried various speeds and drill sizes. At this point it's cheaper and easier to buy a complete throttle body.

Anyone have one?

Ebay has one RIGHT NOW for around 10 bux. If you dont get it, let me know, I still have a spare at the time being. I dont have the bracket for the throttle or detent cable...Just the TB. Let me know what it is worth to ya!

John

I'm considering the one on ebay right now, but am a bit concerned about the broken mounting bolt hole. Anyone know of problems associated with swapping throttle shafts? Clearances etc.?

I wouldn't need the sensors, bracket or anything but the TB itself. I would say 10 bucks is not to unreasonable for it. The one on ebay comes with all the sensors and brackets but is damaged, so a good one without that should be similar. Besides it's a donation to our fearless leader Kevin!

i have one you can have for shipping cost it needs a vacume block though other than that t is in good shape... just remember me when i need something.. :D send me your info and i'll let you know how much shipping is...

I just want to thank Scott for taking this project on---and for verifying my car is indeed cursed by the devil hisself!
;)

And thanks for everyone here willing to pitch in! :)

I still need to go GET the thing! Gonna be weird driving it again after all this time! Weirder will be the fact that it might actually be able to get out of its own way!! :D

And now for the REALLY weird: It's kinda sorta up for sale...:(

IT, and my '84 vette and my '96 Lincoln are also up for sale (Hell, so's my 25' boat for that matter) The Vette is definitely going, and either the T or the VIII must go, can't keep both. I simply don't have room, and more importantly-- my wife may be losing her SS benefits. If that happens, we plain won't have enough $ to pay our bills, and I'll need $$ to pay off some debts...

That said, I have a question: What are these "hotair slugs" worth these days? I have NO clue, and funny thing--I posted my Lincoln for sale on the Mark VIII board, and mentioned the vette and buick are for sale, and I got 2 guys want to know how much for the BUICK! (nobody cares about my pristine Lincoln!)

Chances are I'll be keeping the Buick...hell, I don't think anyone's owned the same Turbo Buick longer than me, 20-1/2 years and counting, nearly half my life! But as they say, everything is for sale, and if I can get enough for it to help us out...life will go on I guess!

(unless I can sell the Lincoln first!)

Thanks again everyone!

No problem Kevin,

Sorry again for taking so damn long on it. I have to get under it one more time before I give it back to you... It seems to have sprung a small oil leak while you were away... Go figure! It was fine for like 3 or 4 days and now it has a little. Might be something simple like the oil filter but I want to take a look at it before I give it to you permanently. Come over and take a look at it! Call me when you see this... 631-3058
