Has anyone ever made a turbo shield for one of our cars...now I'm not talking about the little piece of sheet metal on the hood, but a REAL turbo shield like whats on the 86-87's. I'm would like to do it, but am not sure of all the logistics (sp).

Anyone?!?

I sent an email to Mark Hueffman regarding this subject. He responded at the start of this month with "I'll look into it". It could be very beneficial if everyone who needs one contacts him, so he can decide if there is a big enough market to fabricate some shields.;)

I think if a shield similar to the IC cars was used it would trap a lot of heat around the injectors and intake. There are already insulated covers made for exhaust housings that completely wrap around it. Not sure how it would clear everything but it would keep all the heat inside of the turbo. I could tell a huge difference in underhood temps just by wrapping the uppipe and downpipe (aftermarket unwrapped KB headers).

Hey Chad, Mark & I, plus others here on the board, have discussed this subject off and on the last few months (I make most of what Mark sells, btw!)...

As for a turbo "wrap" shield, Matt (Cool84) is on the money with his "heat trap" theory, I personally think the fuel rail and possibly the firewall may suffer from excess heat buildup(?)... And, as much as I hate to say this (and it's from experience), there's not enough buyers of hotair stuff to justify the time & money to design a complete turbo shield...(JMO)

What I've been considering is a substantially larger, black anodized aluminum version of the stock heat shield. I've been so busy lately I just haven't had any time to research it! I'll put this on my "to do" list this week...

BFH...I'd love to find out more about this...Thanks for the comments, and I'm also looking into getting an ashtray switchplate from you as soon as I figure out what I want the switches to say...:p

Thanks again...John ;)

I have a background in firescience so I know about the different types of heat transfer. My main problem is radiant heat burning the hood liner. The proper metals can either conduct or reflect heat. Heat rises so removing the cowl seal might help, but will probably create another problem. I have a few different concepts of heatsheild, louver usage. The main concern is the hoodliner and cooling the turbo.

Woud using GNX flares help evacuate heat in any significant amount?

If I *gulp* intercool it will my hoodliner still burn?

How about a hiring a midget to sit on the battery tray and fan the turbo? These cars are so big maybe a short person like myself could fit:D
