I am curious as to whether DS gives accurate timing numbers. I understand that the readings will be all over the place until you reach WOT.and stay there for a little bit. Is the value that DS gives the same as is programmed in the chip or is it a close guess?

I've noticed I have to set my timing in the chip slightly lower to get the WOT reading that I expect but thats not to say that DS is wrong as I'm sure the code could be tacking on 1 or 1.5 degrees in there somewhere. Not to mention that on the shifts the timing usually moves around a little and according to the main spark table it shouldn't be able to do that because LV8 stays pegged at 255 during the shifts.

HTH

All DS does is read exactly what is coming from the computer. Your computer is controlling your timing according to what the tables in the chip are telling it to. Plain and simple. All *ANY* scan tool does is report what the computer is doing. HTH :D

DS

So if DS shows 22 degrees @ WOT, that is what the eng. is running at---22 degrees of timing.

Well.....like I said before, the Scan Tool shows you what the ECM is running the engine at. Does that necessarily mean the engine is running that timing? Not really. BUT, as long as your engine is runing correctly and everything is put together right, then yes, whatever the scan tool is showing is what the engine is running at.

If you have a timing adjuster such as the Translator+, the changes you make to the T+ will NOT reflect on DS because the T+ is spliced into the wire that LEAVES the computer.
