Hi guys. I have a Garret turbo off of a hotair '84 (I think) FWD car. I'm building a kinda odd shop car as a experiment in EFI and I have a couple of questions.

The car its going into is a 244 Volvo with the stock 244 Intercooler. The engine I'm putting in it is a 3.8l Series II from a RWD Firebird.

I know that the stock hotair FWD turbo is only good for about 390cfm. Is it worth it to upgrade to the T3/T4 hybrid (I think I got that right) when I have it rebuilt?

Assume that I use the intercooler on both configurations the following two questions pose themselves:

1) With OUT the upgraded turbo, what HP range can I SAFELY take the engine to?

2) With the upgraded turbo, what HP range can I SAFELY take the car to?

Thanks guys, you know your stuff and that why I asked here!

I don't know what hp range the stock turbo will go to but when I got in the 105-106mph trap speed range I broke the shafts on two stock turbos. This was with the wastegate non functional, the very limit of the turbo and it would only put out 18psi. I think there is a calculator somewhere that will give an approximate hp value for a 106mph car that weighs 3,300lbs. If you upgrade, a TA49 in the stock housings works great, it spools like the stock unit and will support 120mph trap speeds, more than a stock series II will likely be able to handle.
The stock intercooled turbo has gone in the 112mph range with a few rare 114mph runs and some 116mph runs on the TTAs.

Hey Cool 84, what sort of PSI do you think I should run with that intercooled Series II? I was thinking about 10 or so initially.
