How fast with a stock Downpipe

I am trying to plan out where to go with my mods.

I have an 87WE4.
So far it has
stock turbo
237 Fuel Pressure Regulator
Walbro 307 fuel Pump.
Fuel Pump HotWire.
Boost Gauge.
Adjustable Wastegate.
Turbo Link.


Right now I have an old kenny bell chip.
It has the stock injectors.
I am going to wait to get a custom chip untill I upgrade the injectors.


This summer I have a list of Mods I am planning, injectors, 3"DP, posi, maby alky injection.

I don't currently have a set goal as to how fast I want to go.

I think I want to try to get the car into the mid 12's and then once I am there I will see what I want to do.

So my question is, how fast can you go with the stock DP.
I am planning on getting a 3"THDP with a test pipe/cutout. But if I can get into the low 12's with the stock DP and a cutout, I might go that route untill I save up the money for the THDP. I guess I am asking at what point does the stock downpipe become a restriction.


Any oppinions?

Low 12's with stock dp,intrc easy to do with good tuning and good weather.

Hum, well now you are making me think since my funds are limited and it seems that mid to low 12s are obtainable with a stock downpipe I might just stick with it forawhile untill I get the money for a THDP.

Are you useing a test pipe with the dump open to get those times.

Also where is the best place to buy a testpipe?

Definitely. Unless you've upgraded your turbo, it's $400 - $500 better spent at the strip club. ...or on a TA49.

I'm running through the Hooker exhaust [with the crappy Hooker Super Turbo mufflers], with the test pipe included for the stock downpipe. No cutout.

Also where is the best place to buy a testpipe?

I'd put a post in the Parts Wanted forum. You should be able to pick one up for around $25. ATR sells new ones for ~$60.

I looked at the ATR website but I didn't see any. Could you send me a link? Is the ATR one the same size as my stock cat, so I can just cut it out and put the cutout in?

ttt, can anyone tell me a vendor who sells a testpipe with an exhaust dump for a stock downpipe?

I looked in the for sale ads but I only found ones for 3" downpipes.

You can buy one for a 3" pipe and adapt it to fit the stock downpipe.

If you switch to a 3" Downpipe in the future, you'll be set.

Note that with a good exhaust, a dump is not really necessary.

My car has duals after the cat with flowmasters, so I know that they arn't good for flow.

I don't have the money to upgrade the whole exhaust, if i had the money i would just get a 3" THDP with a built in dump, but i don't have the $400. My plan is that for maby $60 I could add a dump so i could open it at the track for better performance. And if I had that I would able to just use the exhaust that I have untill it rust away.


Looks like i am just going to have to get a 2.5" testpipe and weld a dump onto it.
