How long did it take?

Hello,

I was wondering how long did it take you guys to save for your TR?

I'm planning on saving about 6-7k, then getting a 4-5k loan to buy my TR, and buying one for around 10-13k for one that has upgrades to it already and is in good condition.

I want to get my TR before i'm out of HS, and that'll be 2007 when I graduate.

I just dream of the day when I give the money seller and get in my car and drive off and roll in my drive way and just smile My friend already has his 1996 LT1 Z28 6 speed, which is a nice car. An other friend is selling his car so he can get a LT1 TA or Z28 6 speed, and my other friends with their hot rod cars.

I just need to get mine so then we can have all our bad ass cars, but I gotta wait... :frown:


I was wondering how long did it take everyone else to get theirs and how much they spent on it and how old they were when they got it?

Also, does everyone think I could get a good TR for 12-13k, ive seen great looking TR's for sale here and other places, and how i want mine to look and everything, but when i dont have the money I just frown.

It took me 42 years! You are way ahead of the game getting one while you are still in school! Save them dimes and nickels and you will get it. Good luck!!

Save and treat it with the upmost respect. I'm 17 and recieved my TTA as a college/HS graduations gift and a loan. Haha it's pretty complex but I get a certain amount of the price we paid for HS grad a certain amount for College grad and then I have to pay a lot of it back as I work through HS and college. Keep it clean and in proper working order. Goodluck in finding a TR.

I bought my 87 T for $3000 when I was in HS, sold a hot air car that I had resurrected from a junkyard for around $1400 and had the rest saved up.

I wanted one when I turned 16 (1987), I finally got one in 2003, so I guess 16 years. I could have bought one long before that, but I did not want to daily drive it.

Wanted one since 1984, then I really wanted one in 1986 when the intercooled ones came out! Had to wait until 2000 for one, got in a motorcycle wreck, couldn't drive a manual while I had the cast on and I found a great deal in the autotrader for my GN.

I had to wait from 1989 (when I got my license) until I was 22. Had to go to and pay for college first. It is difficult to wait, but some things are worth it!

I bought my first when I was 18. It was stolen and I bought a second one soon after.

I'm 21 now, sold the last one and started school.

My advice is to not worry about buying one until you are done with college.

Alright. I live in a small town and my mom rents out warehouse buildings. Turns out a F-Body tuner moved in and had a Turbo Regal for sale. As soon as i layed eyes upon it and he told me about it. I just kept showing up for more info about it. Took me ONE summer and a loan at the end of the year for me to get it. Im only 16, but i own this car myself. I never woulda thought that i could ever afford a car at 16 by myself. But talk with your parents about a loan, they can co-sign and when they do make sure u have a job that u can pay out the loan with. I got a EXTREMELY good deal on my TR. I saw my first GN when I was a freshman in HS (1992) while cruising around town with a buddy. I wanted one so badly when I got my license but they were too expensive so I got a Nova. I had that Nova until about 3 years ago when I decided to sell it because it hadn't been driven for a number of years. So I part out this nova and come up with some cash and notice a GN for sale in town cheap. When I looked at it I was disappointed that it was non intercooled and needed extensive body work. My wife said I was capable of fixing it so I bought the thing. About 2 million phone calls to Jack Cotton for engine stuff and Mike McCoy for body parts, and 3 years later the GN rolled out of my shop rust free and straight as an arrow.
Good luck with saving for your TR. I recommend you don't get one until you've figured out exactly where you'll find the money for college.
