How long do batteries last?

My experience says 5-6 years, but I'm just now changing my mom's battery, and it's over 8 years old.
Anyone have a battery last longer than that?
Just curious...

i've never owned a battery that lasted longer than 3 years

yea, me neither. espessially in my buick. im lucky to get 2 years out of it.

i bought a battery for my 85 TA when i first bought it, i then swapped that battery into my gn right when i bought that, the battery lasted about 5-6 years total, it was a sears diehard.
