Found a 87 GN hardtop with 38k miles on the clock. Original paint that isn't perfect, has a few very small dings and nicks from road debris and what not. Could very easily be cleaned up and look nice. There is only very minor surface rust on the bottoms of the doors and above the rear window seal at that 1/2 of space in between the seal and the hood of the car. Looks like the paint started to crack there and the water worked it's way in. Interior is in awesome shape besides the sagging headliner. Has a 145mph dash. Only mods are ATR duel exhaust with cat cut out, ATR chip and ATR ram air/intercooler scoop. Needs tires and a good tune up including replacing the rotted vacuum lines. Even still has the original coil/module and "turbo" plug wires. I'm really interested in the car and figured I would see what you guys think.

Gotta love those 145 MPH dashes,,,,,click click click 88k goes to 38k in no time:biggrin: NOT SAYING AT ALL this happened but I wouldnt buy a car with the speedo changed out without LOTS of docs to back it up. Just me though... Good luck with the purchase!

good point

As long as you know the odometer wasn't tampered with or was reset to match the old speedo. 85 mph comes on in a hurry in a TR.

By the sounds of the rust you describe I would defintley check into the mileage. The body sounds alot like my 115K mile Regal T when I got it.

Also, make sure that's just surface rust on the bottom of the doors. I think my original doors rotted from the inside out.

I'm glad you mentioned the possibility of a rollback. Now that I think of it. the car did have quite a few rock chips for being 38k. But I guess you never know being that the car has been in illinois it's whole life. Carfax is kind of funny too, check it out

The part that discourages me is when it says it's exempt from odometer reading then all the sudden the mileage is reported when it gets serviced. What do you think about that?

Just my opinion but I would walk...........................

Not knowing the pics, condition etc.

Good luck, I wish the best whatever you decide.

I think that's what I'm going to do. At the price he wants I'm not going to mess with it. He wants $14k for the car.

This car is down to 8k it's worth a look....:D

Looks like I just missed that car for 8k. Stopped paying attention to that post after being up for so long, so I never saw that he only wanted 8k for it. Looks like I missed out. After buying 3 modified TR's I'm kind of thinking about starting with a stock one this time, that way I know the car hasn't been totally beat on. I'm going to keep on the lookout. I'm also waiting for the guy to call me back and ask if I'm still interested. I'm sure he doesn't have any paperwork to back up the mileage. Something sounds fishy about that car. I had no idea the odometers on these cars were that easy to rollback.
