How much horsepower and torque can you safely put through the stock bottom end on our cars?

there is a guy named Geno on this bord that has a stock bottom end, and hes in the mid to low 9 sec. range. i have seen many 10 sec. cars with stock bottom ends. so it would be safe to say well over 600 h.p. and tons of torque.

okay...gene's best run was a 9.90 @ 136(1.37 60').

he was running a stock block, std crank and stock rods(arp bolts) with +.020 je pistons.the bottom end was studded(no girdle) with 2 billet mains.he ran a mm 208 hyd cam, port matched gn1's and a fel-pro.

he blew his first( ) head gasket in vegas after running many high 9's low 10's.that's what we call being dialed in:).

he's now building a stage 1 shortblock to replace his old stocker that is now wrapped in plastic in my dad's shop:D.don't get nervous guys,it's going in my brother's 87.

i do have his old 208 cam and lifters out in the garage that will be going in my 84 along with some ported irons someday when i stop being lazy:D.

as far as bottom end strength,i know guys going deep 11's on BONE stock longblocks.lotsa boost,no knock and a perfect, killer tune:).

later,sean

i only used jenes name because he posted some time ago"do i have the fastest stock block"i did not remember if he said anything about arp bolts or anything else, sorry. but iknow for a fact there are 10 sec. t.r. that live in my county, that are 100% stock blocks, one with over 130,000 miles.:o however very low h.p. will pop a engine with out proper tune.i know this first hand.a little knock is all it takes.
