Painting the GN and just primed last night. There is a small percentage of the metal covered with a thin layer of filler to cover small dings, but for the most part, just bare metal. I got 2 quarts of etch primer (for the metal only), mixed one quart with the activator(?) for a total of 2 quarts of sprayable material. It covered the whole car about 3 coats. Granted, the coats were a bit thin, but I expected to have to use more. I followed up with 3+ coats of OMNI 2K primer, used only 1 1/2 quarts (plus the appropriate reducer and catalyst). I figure i'll have to use a little more of the 2K later when I finish all the body work, but does this sound right? I thought I would have to use a lot more material.

2K primer is for filling imperfections in body work. Why did you 2K primer the whole car? If you have what you consider a perfect panel, it's not necessary to 2k primer it. Not that big a deal but you'll have to block the whole car to your satisfaction, put something on as a seal coat to make it all one color, (I use PPG epoxy primer) then start with your color.

I put the 2k on the whole car because I thought there might be some sanding scratches from when I stripped the paint and prepped. I will have to put a little more 2k on a few parts with body work etc, but I wanted to know if the etch primer was enough or if I should have put on the second quart.

Etch primer only needs to be transparent to work, so I would say you have plenty on the car. That omni 2K is PPG K36 with a different label,Good stuff. I would have threw a few more coats of the 2K on. 4 or 5 coats. Thats because when I block a car out I go with 180 then 220 dry, then 500 wet. Then when your done sanding you still have a little primer on the car. You should still use a sealer before base coat.

Thanks for the replies. The fenders and one of my quarters are flawless; I thought the 2K with take car of any minor scratches. Your right, the rest of the car will need some more 2k, but I have some body work to do first. Luckily I have much more than a half gallon left. Glad to hear that it's good stuff. The guy at the store recommended it even though I'm going to cover with Deltron. Thanks for the replies.
