Nick makes some good points here.

I hate to say this but its a Buick. And just like a harley it is not cheap

Remmember that ther are very few Buick's and as such fewer vendors to make parts for our cars / engines which inturn directly relates to costing more to make, machine and sell parts.

Hate to say it but 4000 is not out of line. My last customers engine was roughly that much with him purchasing the cam kit and a few other parts. That did include removal and install, short block with 30 over pistons, rings bearings that was fresh.

Machine work is usually a little more on these due to the attention to detail required by these engines. Clearances need to be tight and must be right on the money. A half 10000th on these can be critical. This attention to detail takes more time ans as we all know time costs money.

Hope this has given you some good information.

Your are welcome to contact myself or any of the other extremly reputable shops on here.

Hope this helps

Buy a stock shortblock off the board. You will have alot left over from your $4300 QUOTED price.

I'm at $3800, with a .040 over 109, granted I had my heads ported, but what is $4000 when it comes down 2 it?? I have never run my car, but It willno doubt run 12's and all I have done is 009 injecttors, cold air intake, AFPR and a midld tune.

I've built a 396 big block Chevy and I had $3500 in it for parts and labor but it also had a lot of aftermarket parts in it. And big block Chevys are usually expensive to build. More than a small block Chevy 350.

key word there...........cCHEVY, parts are cheaper and easier to get when there are numerous outlets/ companies that sell/ produce a wide variety of parts.

i have a decently built 462 bbb, $3500 basically got me machine work, bearings, pistons, pins and rings!

then factor in arp rod bolts, cam and lifters, timing chain, dist, b4b, headers, carb, oil pump, valves. my guess is around $6000 total when you factor in these parts plus gaskets and small items. and thats for a engine that turns low 13's/ high 12's in a #4200 car, by far not a full-race engine but it has enough power/ torque to move my fatty skylark

IT COSTS MONEY TO GO FAST WITH CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
