Had a little encounter with one on the interstate at lunch today.

I got beside him but he wouldn't go. Next thing I know he punched it and got a head of steam built up. I punched it but he kept pulling ahead. There was a car up ahead in his lane, so I let off to let him in front. He pulled ahead some more. I don't know, but I think I would have started reeling him in if we stayed in it.

Road clear up ahead once more. I'm about a car length ahead. I see him coming up so I punched it. This time I pulled ahead and kept pulling ahead.

My '87 GN has a TH downpipe, K&N, and stock chip. Boost was set at 16psi. The reason I'm running the stock chip is because my Jay Carter and Thrasher both have anti-theft. And the car was sitting for a long time recently and the battery went dead. I had to put in a chip with no anti-theft to get it started.

Yup, that slow. Even the turbocharged.

Unless your car is unGodly fast, anything that isn't a dog that gets a good jump on you will take time to overcome. I let a Miata  get a good jump on me - I let him pass me by a length while he was WOT, then I got on it. By the time I built steam, we came up on traffic and were side by side. He prolly thought that he "won". When they're coming up, don't let em get past you in the first place, especially "at speed".

Way back in '89 when those cars where still nice I raced my friend in his 1985 944 just about everyday against an 1985 monte ss I had. I would only get beat when my tires wouldn't hook. Very close performer to the monte ss. stock vs. stock but we both hauled big heavy speaker boxs and amps. He ALWAYS got me from a roll . . . . I like to think it's because he had a 5spd with a higher redline than the monte's auto.

I don't know about ratings but my friend ran his 944S2 and 944 turbo at the track. The S2 (3.0 4 cylinder) went 14.0@ 101mph bone factory stock on some 911 18" rims. The turbo (2.5 4 banger) went 13.8@ 104mph bone stock. He had a regular 944S which pulled much stronger than a regular 944 but not quite as strong as the S2. Despite it's trap speed the S2 usually ran dead even with C5 vettes from a 70mph roll. The turbo put a serious hurting on them especially after the stage II chips and 3" no cat exhaust.

Guys,
My uncle used to have a sweet 1987 944 Turbo. White with black leather and the grey "telephone dial" wheels. 5-speed of course. It wasn't that slow, I could get it to light up 2nd gear and all he had was a K&N in the stock airbox. He sold it b/c maintenance costs an arm and a leg for Porsches. I gave him a run for his money with my Chevelle I used to own ;)
