How to change an oil pan gasket?

I know it sounds stupid but i cant get the pan with the gasket back on without moving the gasket off center. how the hell do you get it to stay in place?

The way I do it is I place some small tie raps in some of the holes to hold the gasket in place with the pan. Just make sure the holes you use have easy access to cut the tie rap and pull it out, and once you take the tie rap out you can put in a bolt. I hope this helps.

I threaded a string through each hole alternating top and bottom of pain rail and pulled it out as I installed the capscrews.

Cant you use some sort of permatex or silicone just to hold the gasket on for installation?

for cork i use 3m super spray adhesive ,

spray the gasket and the pan edge , alaign the holes as you apply it to the rail (drop the bolts in) ,

for rubber gasket tieing with string (dental floss) works

I use waxed dental floss. Tie the gasket in place, start the bolts, cut the dental floss and it slips right out. simple

rubber fel pro gasket comes with 4 or 6 dowl rods that go through the pan and gasket & locks it in place... good luck
