hey guys, i got a question that maybe some of you guys could help me out with.
i just got an 85 GN. I was in my driveway and did a small burnout and noticed that only one wheel was turning. I lifted up the back end of the car and turned the drivers side wheel and the wheel on the passenger side was turning the opposite direction, thus making me think that i don't have a posi.
did all GN's come with a posi unit? is it possible that maybe the clutches have burned out and need replacing?
i've done my fair of junkyard diving for ford 9" rearends, those came with a tag that you could read and tell if it was a locker or not. the original rearend off my GTO that i put a 9" on, was a posi unit, but also had a metal tag on it labeling it as a posi rearned.
the rearend on my GN doesn't have any tags. is there a way to identify it as a posi unit without taking the rear cover off? perhaps some type of stamp or something?
if the clutches are worn out, i know a mechanic who knows how to rebuild posi-units, i'm just trying to save myself the hastle of opening up the rearend twice.
thanks.
