Is this a Pain in the azz to convert over????

I am looking at a GN and the only drawback in my mind with these cars is the powermaster.

Is it tough to convert to vaccum and how well does it work??

Works great for me, but I have not beeen able to test how much boost it will hold due to problems and not even having time to drive the car for over a year now.

It has been a couple years since I switched, and if I remember right, the worst part was changing the pedal assembly. I did the whole swap in about 2 hours.

good luck,

Vic

Easy and worth every minute of the install. PITA being upside down in the seat though. You won't regret it IMO, no more worrying when the PM is going to die...especially in traffic! Put it in a box for originality. 1-2 hours tops..direct fit if you get the conversion kit or all you need from the boneyard.

Do it, you will love it! Give me a shout if you need any help locating parts. I found all of mine, except for the master cylinder that I bought new, at U Wrench It. Oh, and the vacuum block from Kirbans. Only took a couple hours.:)

I'd switch it if I were you. Remember how Paul's car had a reman powermaster unit on it? It went out on me. I called the owner before him and he said he had to put one on BEFORE that one. That equals three dead powermasters in ~20k miles. They are crap. If you want to buy all new stuff, it's $400 from GM without the pedal, and that's if you have "connections". Good luck.

EDIT: You have a TTA, you should know how well vacuum works with a turbo 6.

It is a pretty e-z swap.......................except for the pedal!! I am 6'2'' 230lbs with gorilla sized hands!! Take out your drivers seat and that should help some. But in the end its well worth the peace of mind knowing you will actually stop.

Depending on your wrenching skills, and tools, 45 mins to a couple hours. Take the seat out, and remove the pedal bracket is my advise. Go slow, look it over closely. Might get one of Casper's vac blocks, just to dress it up.

While the vac doesn't have as much assist as the PM, they work just as well. It's the difference in assist that allows you to still have brakes, if the booster fails, in comparison to a PM failure, BTW.

Order the block from Kirban's for $30 or so, get the pedal and booster from the junkyard for $20, and a new master cylinder for another $20 and enjoy your new brakes! Give me a shout if you need some pics or help. I'm right here in KC.

Thanks to all

Will take ya up on that gn1220,,,as I come to KC twice a month on business.

I havent seen it in three months. Hell it could be gone  . It still has a misfire, but after checking about everything else i think its the coilpack/ignition module. I'm looking at buying a house so the GN just kinda gets to sit there for a year or so. I'll throw more money at it later. It's hard to drive it enough to even keep fresh gas in it.
