Lucked out at my home, took out the trees I was worried about most a couple years ago or would have lost them for sure during this storm. Do have a couple that will be taken down in the back yard very soon.

Now work, that was a different story. Still lucky though. Started at my new job at a nursing home in early July. So far we have had a power failure during a major heat wave, an earthquake and now a hurricane all within two months. Never a dull moment. Been in this biz for 26 years and this year is one I would like to forget, besides having to get a new job after 21 years in the previous place.

Here is what happened at work. Big ass weeping willow that provided lots of shade for the residents is now horizontal. The lucky part is the tree did not even touch the building! Another few feet taller and it would have been a different story! Already got it removed by my tree guy. Still have half the building on generator. We are fed power from two different sources. The wing that is on generator still has AC too so that is a good thing.

All of my cars survived. I did have to jack a non-running GN up and put it on cinder blocks during the storm. Fortunately, this was highest the water got in my yard.

A friend and I kayaked about 1/8th mile up the road and back during the hurricane when the storm surge was the highest. The picture below was after the surge dropped a about a foot and a half....the yellow mailbox was completely under water up my road. The Honda Civic way in the background.....the fender wells were completely under.

Not Irene...

My Hurricane Ike (2008) damage:

We actually got lucky and didn't get much damage to our house or vehicles. Being without power for over 10 days is what sucked!

We were very lucky, a tree landed just a few feet from our car. Although some of our neighbors were not so lucky.
