Richard, I hope you make it back alright. Probably not much to go back to. Some of my wife's family lived in Diamond Head. Their house is gone, nothing left. The Jackson area, central MS took a big hit, but anything south of Hattisburg looks like a war zone. Some friends lived on what "used to be" Dolphin Island (their words). They are shrimpers, so they took their boats out before Katrina. On their way back into Mobile bay they saw bodies floating in the Gulf. Co-workers in Baton Rouge comfirmed the same in the NO area along with gators and sharks now in the flooded city.
My damage is not too bad, but I do have 2 trees that a little bit of wind could put on my house. Ricky is letting me use his enclosed trailer to put the race car in and store it at his house (thanks again Ricky) while I finish up the tree clearing.
No lights, boil water notice, limited ice, bottled water and gas, oh yea and the employer demanding you to be back at work. This is bringing out the worst in people, not the best. Fights, stabbings and shootings at ATM's, gas stations and relief sites. In Hattisburg a man killed his sister over a bag of ice. Price gouging is rampant ($10 bags of ice, $6 a gallon gas, $4,000 generators). The local law enforcement has arrested several and commented they will not get bond. They will sit in jail until trial and they will take their time getting to trial.
