I'd appreciate if someone could tell me how to tell the difference between a 3 speed set of the Hurst Lightning Rods and the one for the 4 speed autos??

TIA
HOW

Part number?

There is a number 1950181 on the shifter, anyone able to check if it's the part number for the 4-sp auto trans? If so I'll appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jerry

that # is on the mounting plate i don't think it has nothing to do with the # of gears !!!

i have 4 sets 3 4spd and 1 3spd and i can see that # only on the 3spd.

but like i said

the far left lever has 4 notches on the 4 spd

and the

3 spd has 3 notches

It appears that there are 3 notches plus 1 longer one!

i've heard about this contraption for quite a while, but thought it was for manuals, and each lever was connected to one of the gear selector levers on the tranny.

i got to looking into them a little more and i'm so lost. it looks to me like the far left one is a naomal automatic gear selector. the other 2, i have no clue. coudl someone explain it?

I bought a set of LR's for my 87 that was for a 3 speed automatic. If you don't need to manually shift from 1st to second then the 3 speed version works flawlessly and look super...IMO.

The first lever next to the driver works Park, Reverse, Neutral, and OD, just like the stock. If you want to MANUALLY shift the trans ALL 3 of the rods have to be pulled back, the trans will shift itself from first to second, then the far right rod is pushed forward to shift from second to third, then the middle rod is pushed forward to shift into drive.
