i have a 86 gn with the powermaster unit but i also have a 84 gn with the hydroboost unit i want to know can i use the 86 gn power steering pump with the hydroboost unit or i need to use the 84 gn power steering pump because i want to use the hydroboost brake system in my 86 gn

There's a lengthy thread on the Hydroboost. We're still waiting on one of the guys in it to produce some numbers on how well it performs compared to a vacuum system.
Barring an amazing revelation in that thread, I recommend you swap that 86 to vacuum instead of Hydroboost. Simpler, much easier swap.

PS pump with Hydroboost
I seem to recall that the PS pump for a car with Hydroboost brake system has another port because it runs the power steering box and provides a pressure line to the brake unit. I can't remember if there are two return lines or not. There is definitely a return from the brake unit but I forget how its plumbed in.
Keep in mind its an integrated pump and reservoir unit. I believe the 86/87 cars had a separate reservoir.
I'm sure you could make it work with the 86/87 style pumps but as someone pointed out already you may be further ahead to just convert to vacuum. A lot less work involved.

you should be able to use the stock pump- you'd just need to "T" in the return line from the hydroboost to the return line from the steering box.
that's what people do when they convert their older cars like Chevellles and Camaros and what not to the hydroboost setup (which, by the way, they ALL say stops better than the vacuum booster), and i haven't read of anyone having any problems with it.

From what I understand about GM PS pumps you should be able to swap pulleys as the shaft diameter is the same.
