talk about a mess! but it came out looking pretty good, not as good as i would have liked, but a lot better than stock. it really wasn't too bad, just sand it all down, after i got it 3/4 of the way done by hand i realized i should have used a air sander... then a lot more sanding followed by more sanding. there are some really deep gouges that i couldn't get out, but most of them are out. then a little rubbing compound and a buffer, and it looks pretty good!

i think i'll polish my old turbo before i sell it, they seem to bring a lot more money on ebay

nice. i wanna see pics.

did u do it on the car or take it off??

i would think you took it off hehe?

i polished my PTE front mount. took 4 hours w/ an air polisher to get that cast bumps off. than it took 2 more hours of wet sanding to get it smooth, than a half hour of polishing. defanitly worth it though. just put it on the other day, looks SWEEEEEEET with my chrome trim on my limited.

ill get some pics of it w/ the front mount polished and put em up too. polishing kicks ass.

i'll get some pics on the car, its not on yet. i might even get a few with it off the car. i didnt' get the back side too good, or the hard to reach places if you can't see them. it should look pretty good from a few feet away, but if you get close its definatly not prefect.

i just finished the inlet bell, looks awsome! i was thinking about getting a billet one just because nothing loks better than billet, but i think this looks everybit as good! not too great up aginst my old crappy looking turbo, but as soon as i get the new one in it really should look great! i'll get some pics soon. if only the outside of my car looked as good as everything under the hood!

Sounds you've got too much time on your hands. j/k I've been known to spend too much time under my hoods detailing also.I agree with you on billet.Years ago I was into chrome but now I'm over it.I wanna see some pics too.

I've done this a few times now and I think I've got the pattern down good now. It only takes me about 45 min with the turbo off the car.

1-w/90* air grinder 3" wheel 50 grit roloc disc quick pass to take down large bumps

2-same 90* grinder w/red scotchbrite roloc wheel quick pass take out major scratches

3-switch to blue scotchbrite roloc. This is the step where I actually take some time

4-3"DA sander w/150 grit(changes the scratches to swirls)

5-bench grinder w/6"beffer wheel and emery compound

That about does it. Sounds like a lot of work, but I only use each sanding stage for about 5-7min. Like denn454 said some of the deep crevices are REALLY hard to get to and don't matter that much. The machined inlet bells polish up real nice w/just some emery compound on the buffer.

ADUM

P.S. I've also used this procedure to polish my MAF housing and my stock intercooler before I sold it a while back.

what i did was start off with a wire brush and take down the big bumps, this is all with a die grinder by the way. then some pretty corse snadpaper, i think 105 grit. then a hard scotchbrite, not sure what kind it is, its hard and light brown if that means anything. then i took some 80 microfinish, or microgrit whatever its called sandpaper to it by hand, then went down to 60(smaller numbers are finer on that) then i went for some steel whool with a little bit of heavy buffing compound, then the same buffing compound with a rag to put it on, and take it off with a rag wheel on a buffer. then some mild polishing stuff, some kind of a pre wax for cars, i'n really not sure what it is, but it worked pretty good. i put it on with a rag and took it off with a buffer.

lot of work but does look pretty good.
