Well my 84 gn is finally starting to catch up with the modern world. I've finally converted to 87 ECM. I went ahead and installed air temp sensor since I'm starting out with the stock 87 chip. (thanks again brad) Eric at turbotweak suggested not making me a chip till I've got my coolant and fuel system up to snuff. I also have just installed the fuel hotwire kit. I am using stock 87 ac delco MAF. Also have installed direct scan. It feels pretty cool driving around with my laptop in the pass. seat. Makes me feel like I could be one of you "smart guys".
Car idles and runs great. My popping and sputtering during warm up has totally dissapeared. No codes have ever came up. Car shifts a bit harder, which feels nice. It doesn't feel like it has any more power than before, which I didn't expect it to, however it does feel like the turbo doesn't spool up as fast, like theres something making it harder for it to pull in air when you lay into the throttle. I'm not going to worry about it till I get my fuel and cooling mods finished, and a good aftermarket chip in it. Then I can start concentrating on tuning. I plan on spending the next several weeks studying up on tuning and getting used to my direct scan.
My coolant temp stays right around 200 (ouch, I know). I've already got the fan relay kit from caspers. I'll be installing a f-body radiator and some type of good aftermarket electric fan that I've yet to buy.
I figure a couple easy things I can do right now since I've got my direct scan hooked up is my IAC adjustment and my TPS adjustment. The procedure on gnttype for IAC says to bring it down to 10-40, however I can't get it lower than 57. I'm adjusting when the car is up to temp at idle. Should I check my timing, then try to adjust IAC?
sorry such a long post.

What is your BLM at idle? This is probably your most important adjustment. Do you have an adj. fuel pressure regulator? Lets us know and you will get alot of help. Brad

I forgot-The IAC will vary-make sure the BLM is within plus or minus 128. If the IAC won't adjust after you have the proper BLM the problem may be the IAC control valve. I had this problem and could only diagnose it after the BLM was correct. Brad

Last night when I got home and pulled the car in the garage and put it in park, My BLM # was 139. (The # thats at the top right hand corner of the BLM's chart thingy. This cars never had a fuel pressure guage or regulator. I was going to get those when I do the whole fuel system upgrade. Which could be a little than 2 months away because I wanna have enough money saved up so it won't be an issue. However, if I can get started doing some tuning by just going ahead and buying a regulator and a guage right now.... then I'll order them up today. I know lots of websites where I can get both, but does someone suggest a best quality/best price and best place for both that I can order up right away?
By mid October I should have enough $$$ to get a whole new fuel tank to clean up the look of the car from the rear, new straps, and new hi-performance fuel pump. I have just installed the fuel pump hot wire kit. (and under harder acceleration, I did notice the boost and rpms being able to hold out quite a bit longer before detonating ). So that was definetly money well spent.
When I was under the car installing the hot-wire kit, I didn't see any evidence that the fuel tank has ever been off. Which is saying a lot for that fuel pump if its the original, but I doubt it is, nevertheless, God only knows what my fuel sock looks like.
I'll have a fuel pressure and regulator ordered up by the end of the day! When their installed, I'll report back.

Fuel pressure guage ordered. I'll report back when its installed.

well, fuel pressure guage is installed, I've also just installed the LT1 MAF and translator. The car is performing better than it ever has. I've decided that I'm not going to bother trying to tune this thing until I've got my coolant and fuel systems up to where they need to be. I think I'm probably beating a dead horse trying to get some serious performance out of this thing when when my coolant is running 200-210, and I'm still running a stock fuel pump and no adjustable fuel regulator, and a stock chip to boot. I am going to buy a new fuel tank, a hi performance fuel pump (probably the walbro) and a adjustable fuel regulator. I've already got the hot-wire kit and fuel pressure guage installed. Coolant wise, I'm going to completely drain the system, and install a 160 thermostat, f-body rad., and a dual electric fan setup. I'll get a custom chip from turbotweak, then start trying to learn how to tune. I've already got some of the parts already. Hopefully I'll have all the funds for this in about a month. Until then... I've got to find out why my ECM isn't picking up a boost voltage signal.... always something to keep me busy.
