I am not a hot shot when it comes to my 87 GN (or for that matter any other car, but I have a buddy who has a repair shop who does my work). Been trying to find the cure for a rough idle @800 rpm (Per Caspers tach), it also stalls when first started, so you have to keep reving the engine for maybe 3 minutes, once it has a load it does not stall, but always feel like it is going to. I need to cure this so I can enjoy the ride rather than wonder if I am going to stall when the light turns green and the semi behind me is going to do me in.

It also stumbles when running at 30 and 50 mph, other than that no problem. I am not overly concerned by the 30 and 50 part, but wondered if the idle is set too low?

We have done the following:

New TPS
New wires and plugs
New coil and module
New air filter, pvc, breather, and vacum lines.

What should the TPS reading be at idle anyway? Any other thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks

Hi Russ! In order to help you more information is needed like chip, injectors, scan tool #s and other mods.

+2

What chip are you running and what are your idle values according to the scanmaster? Cant help without more info.

Thanks

Kenny, 87 nat and Vl, thanks for the input, don't have a Scanmaster but from just searching the the various forums, guess I need to get one as it appears it is almost a must have.

Don't have a clue on chips or injectors how does one find that info? There are no mods what so ever.

Scanmaster is a handy tool because it will give you the TPS and IAC readings. These two values are a good starting point. The Scanmaster can give you many other readings that are needed for fine tuning. A good (New) chip like TT and some some updated injectors will make a huge difference. Even though a TR may have low milage the injectors among other things are 20 yrs old.

Car is bone stock. Been looking on line at Scanmasters, do the typically come with everything you need to install or is something else required? What I see runs from $249 to $280, is that about right?

Thanks

I bought my scanmaster from FULL THROTTLE SPEED - Store Front Page Do yourself a favor and take that stock chip out and order a more modern chip such as a Turbo tweak chip, you will be amazed at the difference in idle and all around performance of the car. That stock chip has too much timing in it for todays gas.

Turbo Tweak site wants to know, Injector Type (part# helpful) and What kind of turbo do you have?. Where the heck do I find that information?

Thanks

You said the car is "Bone Stock" just tell Eric that information.

Turbo = stock, Injectors = stock, he will burn the chip for a stock car.

After much crawling in the engine compartment, with a magnifying glass I was able to get 0280150218 off the injector, which did come to life on the net. Removed the turbo heat shield and found a tag/plate which said "Garrett-remanufactured for Buick Motors p/n25527600", which didn't come up anywhere on the net. I'll pass all the info on to Eric and see how it works out.

The guy I bought the car from said it was stock, I wouldn't know stock from non stock. I just Parrot what he said.

Just ordered a Scanmaster from Full Throttle.

Thanks
