So I have this really dumb idea of converting my 91 chevy 2wd pickup from a 700-R4 to a 200-4R. I need to know the best way to get the correct VSS signal to the chevy electronics. I remember working on a car that had a screw on VSS, I think it was a caprice wagon but I don't know if it uses the same type of signal. I can tinker with the gears to get the sensor to the correct speed as long as it's close. I was also thinking about finding a GN speed sensor, but again I don't know the type or rate of signal for the chevy dash. Anyone done something like this before?
Oh, it does NOT matter what it looks like under the truck. Even if it's some 1/2 mile long tangled mess that's held in place by 350 zip ties. No one will ever see it.
I am aware of the possible driveshaft mods, bending of cooler lines, "modified" dip stick tube, and possible crossmember relocation. The lockup plug will physically plug in, and I can switch pins to get the wiring right if I have to. I "think" the shift lever shaft is close enough to work even if it's not dead on, and I'm still not sure if I can use the standard chevy flywheel and probably a D5 converter. It will be a universal bellhousing trans. Detent cable should slide right in from the 700. Can anyone else confirm/correct me on any of these items?
Thanks.
