I've been going over invoices the previous owner racked up and am trying to determine what I have.

According to the most recent invoice the injectors were replaced with "EDI Style 42lb ford #m9593-f304"

My biggest question is are these compatible with a stock '85 ecm and prom.

And second question is are these injectors even right for the car and do i need different injectors. (the ford thing kinda bothers me)

Thank you for any insight you guys can provide me.

i have "ford blutops 36 lbs" with a matching turbo tweak chip and work fine ....you need to have the right chip for the injectors, each chip is burnt for the matching injectors:biggrin:

thanks for the information :)

Also....how crappy would the car run without the right chip for these injectors?

any others wish to chime in?

Any other numbers on them? Maybe, starting with 0280 150??
As for these injs w/ the wrong chip. NO WAY!!
The ecm is told that the engine has a particular flow rate inj in it, and makes the calculations using that info.
Larger injs and a stock chip will likely make the engine run fat. As the ecm is calling for longer inj duty cycles, based on a smaller inj rate...Could be better than the "other way around"!!

Paul,
Chuck said it best. You do not want to use a stock chip with upgrades like injectors. Get a new chip that is correct for your combinaation. General consensus is for Eric's turbotweak chip. Get a correct chip really soon.

And like 1986TR said, the Ford injectors are fine. The 36# units are from the '94 Thunderbird super coupe and tons were used as a basic upgrade/replacement for the stockers. Just pass-on the info of your 42# units to whomever burns you a new chip so that the fuel curve is correct.

I'm also expecting that you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (set up correctly) and a hot wire kit for your fuel pump? Everything is related.

Thank you for all your input. I'm in the stage of figuring out what I got. I know the car had an abused past and I know there were things on the car that aren't on it now.

But things are starting to make more and more sense the more I learn. I just wish other things were as easy to determine what I have.....like the turbo.....I got a receipt saying it was R&R'd but I don't know if that would still be considered a stocker or if its a little bit upgraded. The engine is also .030 over and I ran the part number for the cam on the receipt and came up with deadends on that as well. So I got a lot of figuring out to do before she's on the road.

Thank you again for the information, it's greatly appreciated.

Where are you located? There might be someone nearby that can help you figure out what you have.

Paul,
If the cam receipt shows the manufacturer of the cam, contact them. the mfg. can usually always look up a part # and tell you the specs. I'm not going to overlook the simple thing....maybe the shop who did the work only uses one cam manufacturer for the turbo buick engines or could tell you?

contact the outfit that did the work for the turbo. do they have greater detail of the work done? you might just have to do some measuring of the compressor and turbine wheels to determine what you have. A popular upgrade when a hot air turbo was rebuilt was to machine the stock housing to fit larger wheels. hope that helps.

I also like the idea above. many members will offer to talk shop with you over the phone or even stop by to lend a hand if you ask.

Dave....I'm in the Milwaukee,WI area. Kinda funny....a previous owner of the car was named Dave...hehe

I called the shop, Fast Times Automotive and Performance Center but they couldn't help me out with the maker of the cam.....the receipt just says "229-1841 Cam" if that means anything to anyone....part of the number comes up on a gbodyforums board Melling M77-229-1841 as a '87 gn cam but thats all it says.

Again:
"Any other numbers on them? Maybe, starting with 0280 150??"
BTW, Melling has a pretty good website. Maybe try there for the cam info????
