I Installed my Scanmaster & VDO Boost gauge today. I was manually toggleing the scanmaster
to check conditions.

I went for a ride on both side road & highway.
I gunned it onto the highway after letting up she ran like crap. When I installed the plastic
line for the boost gauge I took the last plug wire off the coil pack. DOH I placed it on but never pushed it down.
Thus making her run crappy till I got off the exit & pulled over in a lot to check out what happened.

AS for the VDO GAUGE it is GREAT! RIGHT on the A pillar.

The Scan master is tucked in corner above radio & dash pod.
I used 2 way tape but had to use a mini C clamp to hold it..
I also checked for malfunction codes which none came up? GUESS THAT IS GOOD?

Some figures I recorded
Air flow = 34 - 37
block temp = 181
O2 sensor =738
I don't know the other LOL! I am learning slowly But SO FAR SO GOOD!

What do I really need to check on the scan master & what will the recall show me?

The most important thing to keep an eye on is the knock counts, or knock retard.

Just take your time & ask questions. That's how we all learn. :)

You did the right thing by getting a scantool & a boost gauge. Both of them are a must-have when learning to tune these cars.

OK I Drove around & it is in the normal MODE.
It is sensing the Oxygen sensor & the know meter is on the right.

When getting on it the millivolts shows over 700 but when
driving slow it jumps around from in the low hundreds back up to 700 range. Is this what it is suppose to DO????????

When getting on it the KNOCK meter stay's 0.0 so I assume that is good?

PLEASE Answer Thanks Guys

Zero knock is great unless it like what just happened to me.I was running some pretty high boost and race gas-----good combo unless you find during your head-gasket swap that your knock sensor wire has come unplugged from the sensor:rolleyes: --kinda makes you feel like superman until you see that wire dangling there:rolleyes: i guess check the obvious is the moral to this story---did i mention:rolleyes:

KNOCK SENSOR?

OK here is a stupid ? If My wire to knock sensor was off or if the sensor was bad would the SCANMAST throw a malfunction code?

Knock sensor worked

My Knock sensor worked.
Drag racing the other eve it threw a 1.6
at the top of 2nd gear & disappeared shifting into 3rd.

so if the knock sensor is not working or unplugged wil the scanmaster or "casper" knock gauge give a reading?

No reading and detonation can kill the motor.

Tap test and monitoring should tell if it is working.
