I finally received my powerlogger and am in the process of the install. (I figure it's better to stay home and sober)

Ok so far I have put the disc in my lap tops CD ROM and downloaded the disc to my notebook. I just got thru installing the powerlogger board on the end of the ECM circuit board and the ECM is now back together and installed in the kick panel.

The next step is to upgrade the chip in the scanmaster.

In the steps to do this, the first step says to install the updated software. It says to open my documents, open the powerlogger. The software updates are distributed on a zip file or on CD. Open the zip or CD and copy and drag the contents to the powerlogger folder.

This is where I am confused. I don't see a zip file in the my documents folder. There is a short cut on my wall paper for the powerlogger. I would have thought for sure this would have already installed when the disc was installed....?

Please help.

Thanks.

Go to My Computer. Then click on your CD Drive. Open the files, and if the directions are correct there should be a .zip file there for you to drag and or copy to your documents if you want. Or just drag them where the directions say. I have never installed one myself, but I am a kind of computer geek lol.

Hmpf.. You can search the name in your search function. You could also look and see if you can find most recently modified documents. Uhm. If none of that works, uninstall and reinstall. It helps sometimes.

And now I get everything hooked up, laptop on, USB cable linked to the ECM from laptop, I turn on the ignition and go to the UpdatePL20 tabl, it asks for the code to make it work I punch in the code and it doesn't take. What gives??????????????

if you just bought the unit. It has the latest software in it. No need to update.

Bob

Yes Bob I just bought it as part of FT's xmas sale.

Well, for some reason my lap top does not acknowledge there's an ECM plugged into it. Meaning I start the engine but the console shows nothing. No gauges reading or anything. I go to my computer and the laptop doesn't even show there's anything plugged into it at all. WTF?

But...at least the Scanmaster now reads a million miles faster than it used to, so at least that's a start....although there's a few new readings such as "SP" and "PU" that I can't seem to figure out.

Oh yeah and if anyone knows which terminals on the back of my PLX stand alone unit are what I need to power up the wideband portion please lmk.

Thanks again.

If the scanmaster stuff is working, then the hardware install is correct.

What kind of laptop?

with the cables plugged in, and the engine/key on. hit F8 and see if it connects.

Also, with the cables plugged in, and the engine/key on, right click My Computer (computer in Vista) and select 'manage', in the next window that opens, select device manager. Inside the device manager, look for a ports section, and the USB section. Look for the PowerLogger in those sections.

Bob

It's a Heward Packard notebook, brand new, has Windows 7 on it.

If I hit F8, it reads: Device "COMP1" open error. System cannot find file specified.

ok, open up the device manager like I mentioned, you should find the PowerLogger in the USB section. Right click it and select update driver.

with the driver wizard, don't have it search online or anything, click the 'have disk' button, or whatever. Direct the wizard to the PowerLogger\Drivers folder in My Documents (or wherever you put it)

If the PowerLogger folder is a "compressed folder" none of this will work....

Let me know what happens.

Bob

I did find powerlogger but not in the USB, it was in "other devices". And it's sending me a message that the drivers aren't installed.

Also when I shut the ignition off the "other devices" folder disappears.

ok,

disappearing with turning off the key sounds normal to me..

Now, right click on it and choose update or install drivers or whatever the computer lets you do. Direct the driver wizard to the Drivers folder inside the PowerLogger folder. Don't direct it to any folders inside of Drivers.

Bob

Thanks Bob...as I learned there are two drivers that had to be installed manually using the supplied disc I had. Once I installed them both, now I'm getting a reading with the engine running. Awesome. Can't wait to get it out on the road.

Now I just need to figure out which terminal on the back of my PLX wideband controller supplies the signal to send to the powerlogger aux board.

See post #2, Eric has a nice pic made up. *Not sure it will be the same on your unit because if I remember you have the standalone unit with the guage built in instead of the sm-afr.

Yes mine is a stand alone.

How much of a voltage is suppose to come from the PLX to the powerlogger aux board to make the scanmaster read? I could always break out the multimeter and take a reading.

Did you check Erik's picture? I also added a picture to that thread. There also needs to be a ground wire added to the analog output connector. Check the thread.

This might help.

Yes I saw Eric's pic. I also saw the ones where you added in the black ground wire. Just I wasn't sure if the plug in connections are the same on all PLX widebands.

Hello, I'm having the same connection problem you were having and was wondering which drivers you installed manually. I'm pretty sure I installed them already, but nothing I've tried has worked and I just want to be sure.
