I want to know.. if a 196-198 buick v6 intake will fit a 225-231 v6. I have a 196-198 offenhauser intake manifold.. and it dosent quite fit my 225 heads. It is slightly narrower.. I couldnt tell by just looking at.. I couldnt bolt it on. Then i stumbled upon this Wieand intake manifold.. it says it'll fit 196-252's !!

Help me.. I'm confused.

Also.. It seems like I *could* get my 198 offenhauser on my 225 *if* I had a thicker intake gasket. Any ideas ??

Early
198 - 1962-63
225 - 1964-71

Later
231 (3.8) - 1975-
252 (4.1) - 1980-84
196 (3.2) - 1978-
181 (3.0) - 1982-

The heads have three generations
1962-1976 (early)
1977-1978 (low ports)
1979- (high ports)
*Early will not swap with low/high port heads

This is from the book V-6 Performance by Pat Ganahl. I highly recommend this book. According to the book, the 198 became the 225 by increasing the bore. They both use the same cylinder heads. It seeems a 198 intake and a 225 intake would directly interchange.

I think all Buick V6 intakes interchange. Some were low port, some where high port and some were a compromise.

Now.. your driving me crazy !!    :)

Lots of info there.. hmm.. what do i do now ?

I think I'll find out if the heads on my 225 are actually 225 heads. If it is.. I dont see why the offenahuse intake manifold I have dosent fit. according to the info.. 62-76 is swappable.

Check out this link if you would. $1500 for a 4.1 longblock with warranty sounds pretty good. This does not include intake, valve covers, oil pan, etc. I have all those items and ps pump, alternator on the 231 I got at the yard last weekend. Sound like a deal? Looks to be less money than I could build one for. 8.0:1 compression.

Thanks.

Sounds like a good deal. I'd prefer a shortblock and then some ported heads.

I'd ignore the warrently. Getting them to honor a 'their fault' warrenty from WA may be dicey at best.
