Were they? I just took it to a detailing place and they sprayed a degreaser on the intake and after they sprayed it off, there was a whitish residue left all over the intake, with drip marks down the side. They say that they don't know how to get it off. If it was painted from the factory, that might explain why it dulled. Do you know if it was painted from the factory, or if there is a way to get it off?

i dont believe they were painted but im not for sure, the whitish stuff is from useing a heavy degreaser which dulls paint and screws up alluminuim..the best thing to use is simple green, which wont do that..you could always try spraying the intake again with some purple stuff(heavy degreaser)that they probably used, spray it heavy and evenly, then spray it off, then just take some armoral and soak it on it and it should look fine..or even wd40..you could spray clear on it but it may turn yellow in time and peel..hope this helps..i always spray my whole motor and compartment with armoral and wipe it dry it really gives it a nice shine..try it you will see..

That didn't work.....it looks like a hazy white all over the cast part of the metal. My dad thinks it might be Aluminum Oxide, a type of rust-like thing for aluminum, but he hasn't seen it.

I ran into the same thing with my intake. I used a wire brush in a drill to get it off. It is some kind of clearcote. I left the intake on the back porch after I got it nice and clean,we got a heavy rain,it got wet, oxidation. I'm gonna clean it again and either use some clear or aluminum engine paint.

FYI... I had my intake glass beaded and then I cleared it with some of that clear engine paint from the parts store. I also did the same to the valve covers and they both came out really nice.
