Intercooler Fittings on a Hotair

Question regarding the Intercooler's that can go onto a hotair.

Why is it that only the Spearco can fit on the hotair motor? Why wouldn't you be able to fit any others on there? It looks as though it's the same type of setup as the IC'd cars as far as the intercooler's placement. And from what it looks like from the pictures of other people's intercooled hotair motor's, it looks like all your doing is mounting it, and then running the intercooler's piping to the turbo and then around the other end.

So it's all really about piping, am I right? Or am I wrong?

Maybe I'm wrong. But someone on another board talked about putting a stock 86/87 IC on there...

Sure you can put a stock 86/87 IC on a hot air. I just takes
an electric fan to give you the clearance for the stock IC.
If you want to keep the hot air cars cool, my experience
is that you need a bigger radiator and electric fan anyway.
Both my hot air cars have electric fans and bigger radiators
and I wouldn't go back. They both have IC's in the stock location
as well.

Unless you can get a spearco for close to nothing I think it its junk. So much piping involved and the pipes look restrictive. If you want to ic the car get a 86-87 lower and upper intake,throttle body,detent bracket,all the hardware cut the doghouse to clear the turbo,then you can fit as big as a PT67 on top of the engine and also put what ever type of ic up front. From this you would get more hp, better throttle rsponse, and opens doors to different combinations.

The Spearco kit isn't bad. I went 110mph with it at low boost. The neck going into the intake manifold is a little restrictive and the biggest problem is having the TB before the turbo. When I had my Spearco kit, I cut a section of piping out near the firewall and installed the TB there. Much better spool, power, and especially drivability.

A JS style IC setup is easier and cheaper and with the right
upper plenum, it will flow the same as a stock
86/87 intake/plenum. I have had a modified PTE
upper plenum flow checked against other plenums
and there is no flow difference between them.
Just use an 86/87 lower intake and modify a
PTE/stock/other upper plenum and it will work
just fine. Just IMHO.
