Intermittent Cranks, but no start. Help?

A friend of mine has a really nice low mile TT/A. He was telling me that occasionally, the car will crank fine, but won't start. He said if he just leaves it sit and comes back later, it typically will start right up. I thought it might be a hot/cold thing, but he said he he didn't think it was that because it was intermittent and somewhat unpredictable. Just trying to help him out. Any ideas?

I think its the starter. I just had to change my original starter yesterday and now it starts up every time. I was able to get one for $33 from Rockauto and it was easy to change.

It always cranks over fine. It just doesn't always start and run.

sounds more like the ignition module is getting flaky... they tend to start acting up when hot... intermittently at first, then growing worse.....
