Overfueling the motor, with more advance can do that.
The extra fuel slightly raises the compression ratio, and needs some more timing, so it has more of a crackle in the exhaust, and is in fact more responsive due to the extra compression.

it doesnt have more of a cackle, its deeper.
the wide band correction shows minimal adjustments being made.
thanks for the fast input bruce
Then you probably were too rich, without enough timing to capitialize on it.
You have to realize that you've sandbagged the conversation, by only telling part of the story.
Most normally a crackle is leaner, with the deeper sounds being from a milder tune. Not to be confused with a car running zoomies, ie top fuel.
It's also possible thur overfueling a motor to change the acoustic signature enough to fool your typical Knock Sensor. Which puts you in a place where you can run even more timing, and get more of a crackle for A WHILE.
That's why plug reading for now, and the immediate future will always remain important.
