Is it normal for the 1st to 2nd shift to be hard

I have an 87 GN and for all intnesive purposes, it is stock. It shifts really hard from 1st to 2nd. Is this normal????

shift quality or lack of it is based on calibration.if someone has installed a larger servo or modified the circuitry or you have a stuck or damaged accumulator piston,spring or accumulator valve in the valve body this can give the same complaint.has the transmission been worked on?if it is bothering you you will need to find the malfunctioning part and repair it after performaing some tests.

I've had 4 TR's and that is normal to get rubber in 2nd gear.

thats right .if its always been there its always been there.showroom stock theyd chirp but not BANG
