I just removed the pump from my transmission in order to get a stuck TCC valve out.

I could tell there was a little bit more metal bits laying around in the tranny and pump than I would have liked to have seen. Upon further inspection, I found that there were very obvious grooves worn in to both sides of the housing where the oil pump rotor sits. It is significantly worse on the side opposite of the pump slide. I also noticed that the pump body bushing bushing was kinda chewed up... I dont know if its like an engine bearing in that it turns copper color when it gets worn. If it is, then its not to that point yet, but there are definate chew marks on it.

So my questions are: how bad is too bad when it comes to these grooves, and secondly, what would cause the pump rotor to grind these grooves, third, how bad is it to have a somewhat chewed up pump body bushing, and finally, do I need to just get a new pump, and if so, do I need to get anything else new or inspect any other parts?

This is a pretty new tranny, like less than 10k miles so its not wear from long term use

If its grooved its not acceptable. It needs a new pump or needs that one remachined and reclearanced. Its easier to buy a new pump. Call Chris at CK. I would flush out the oil cooler also. Grooving is usually from it being assembled to tight.

anybody?

Btw, could my flexplate be bad and causing this?
Check the bolts to ensure their tight. Start the engine up and observe the flexplate. Use an indicator if you thnk its a little bent. It sould be visible while running if it is though.

Bison, you always reply to my questions. I owe you one if I'm ever up that way.

Im going to check out the flex plate and I figured the grooving was going to be unacceptable, its too deep.

could I have hurt any other parts of the tranny? I noticed my shift points increased by 1000 rpm leading up to this event (the valve getting stuck)

I was planning on taking apart the valve body to clean it aswell

Are shifts increased 1000 rpm under all conditions or just WOT. Pull the governor and make sure its ok. Its hard to say how much metal you really have in the trans without seeing it. If you can take a pic of the pan if you havent cleaned it. Are the particles non ferrous or ferrous or both. I assume you had a magnet in the pan. Pull the valves one at a time and have a coulple cans of bake parts cleaner on hand.

the shifts were increased only under WOT. I plan on taking the governor out too to make sure its ok

As far as bits in the pan, it was fairly clean but i did notice some small bits of metal in there. The magnet wasnt too bad.
