Is pulsator needed?

I am getting ready to install another Walbro pump. I just wanted to know if the pulsator was just there to lower noise level or was it needed for a different reason? I had heard it was a restriction to flow. Any comments?

almost no one I know uses one, the bigest problem I see is they can leak. So just use a piece of fuel hose which usually comes with the install kit anyway.
