is the chip programmed for exact combo

My buddy has a pte chip bought when he had a turbonetics turbo, and 50# inect. Since then the turbo blew up and he bought a 52 gn1 heads and a front mount. will that same chip be fine and should he have a chip burned for his complete set up. at the time when he bought the turbo they said the chip will be fine w/ the 52 turbo since they were very close in size.
