Just got a 2001 Bonneville. Inspection station says the front hub (wheel bearing) needs to be replaced. There seems to be .002" of play at most. Just 2/1,000 inch!

seems fine to me - wondering if there is a GM spec or MD safety inspection spec for this part.

TIA,

Hey Blown, I don't remember if there is a spec, but it is a double roller/single case bearing. There shouldn't be any play in it really, but then, .002" isn't really any play at all. If you aren't getting a noise from it that varies when you turn the wheel side to side while driving you are probably ok for now. When you do replace the bearing, it comes as a hub and abs sensor assembly. USE THE FACTORY PART when you do replace it. They are spendy, but are a far better part than anything on the after market. It isn't too unusual to have them fail around 50k to 75k either. They tend to be sensitive to side impacts also. Mark
