is there hope for this hot air???

my brother got a really good deal on an all original hot air 86 GN and he was wondering how hard it would be to put an intercooler on it. It needs a rebuild but he was wondering about how much it would take to get it in the 12's.

It can be done with a Hot air. Go to GNTTYPE.ORG and look for recipes for a hot air. You can go the hot air route or the intercooler way and get there if you have the cash. Brad 85GN

If you got 3000, you can prolly pick up a real nice LC2 conversion....Is a p.i.t.a., but if you want that IC performance, best do it right the first time! If you want an easy 12 sec car, go to the recipe page, or just follow what a lot of these wonderful Hot Air Guys and Girls have in their signatures! It is a wonderful enviroment when everyone communicates constructively, and you will definately have a good time if you set your goals and consult us time to time. An 85 GN is a sweet ride, and would be more fun if you can get it where you want it, without any hear ache or empty wallet syndrome. Thanks for checking us out and keep us posted!!!

yea you guys are definitely brilliant, any question I have ever asked on here or gnttype.org has been answered. for some reason gnttype isn't working recently though but once it gets back up and running, I'll definitely check it out.


When we were cruising around in it last night we noticed that right after you start it up if it isn't warmed up, it makes a really funny noise for about 30 seconds and then will do it off and on randomly. I know 85 was one of the first years they switched thier brake systems around. Is there any way to cure that god awful noise? Also the owner told us that every once in a while it will randomly die for no reason at all, it starts back up immediately, but I would still like to cure that problem.

I'm actually about to get an 87 GN replica that was originally an '84 regal, anyone have any advice with that? I'm picking it up on monday. that brings the turbo buick count in my household up to three, and I love every one of them.

I ran into a same problem when I bought my 85 GN two years ago. The car was all original and the master brake system squilled off an on . I replaced it with a rebuild unit and all is well. Brad

would a system out of an 86 t type work in the 85? they look the exact same and I have an 86 parts car. I was also wondering where my red armstrong chip would be because it came with it in there and I don't even know where to begin to look for it.

My brother tried to put the chip out of my 86 parts car in his 85, and it wouldn't start so he switched it back and it still won't start. Could he of really messed that computer up or what should we do?

ECM chip mismatch

I recommend that you convert the '85 over to the 86/87 ECM. Its not that difficult.

You will need the CALPAK from the original 85 ECM and install it in the 86/87 ECM and use an appropriate chip for 86/87 ECM's.

To avoid having to have the SES light come on you need to install a MAT sensor somewhere in the air intake path and wire it into one of the ECM connectors.

we got it running again, its going really nice for the mileage. don't worry about that info, we're not gonna mess with too much stuff for a little while because I'm getting my 87 GN (replica) today!!!!
